# U Shape MoSi2 Heating Rod

## U-Type MoSi2 Heating Rod Description

CVSIC U-Type Molybdenum Disilicide (MoSi2) heating element, shaped like a “U,” is crafted from high-purity MoSi2 via a high-temperature sintering process, with a density of 5.5-6.2 g/cm³ and a maximum operating temperature of 1850℃. Featuring two cold ends (Lu) and a U-shaped hot end (Le), the cold end diameter is twice the hot end’s, joined by welds, with an aluminum-coated cold end for low-resistance contact. Built for suspended installation, it delivers high-temperature and oxidation resistance, making it a reliable heating option for high-temperature applications in ceramics, electronics, lithium batteries, and furnaces.

## U-Type MoSi2 Heating Rod Installation Method

To ensure the performance and safety of U-Type MoSi2 heating elements, follow these steps:

- **Inspect Element:** Check for cracks or damage before installation.

- **Installation Position:** Place the hot end (Le) downward for suspended setup and insert cold ends (Lu) into the furnace, ensuring the transition zone is not exposed to avoid overheating damage.

- **Spacing Design**: Maintain adequate distance from furnace bottom and walls (≥3 times hot end diameter) to prevent heat buildup.

- **Fixing Device:** Use ceramic or heat-resistant steel clips to secure cold ends, avoiding mechanical stress.

- **Power Connection:** Connect the cold end to power using a flat aluminum braid and spring clips, ensuring a solid connection.

- **Preheating:** Gradually increase power during first use to avoid thermal shock.

- **Regular Maintenance:** Inspect connectors and clips for loosening or corrosion; re-tighten screws after 2-3 hours of operation to address thermal relaxation.

**Replacement Steps **

- Locate damaged element and prepare replacement set.

- Disconnect power, remove aluminum braid and connecting screws, and clear refractory material and plugs.

- Insert new element from furnace top, reconnect wires, and refill refractory material.

- Gradually heat to ensure normal operation.

## U-Type MoSi2 Heating Rod Design Recommendations

To optimize the performance of U-Type MoSi2 heating elements, follow these suggestions:

- **Length Matching**: Ensure Lu (150-1000mm) and Le (150-1500mm) match furnace dimensions, avoiding hot end insertion into furnace walls.

- **Shank Spacing Design**: Select A value (standard/minimum) based on diameter for stable installation and uniform heat distribution.

- **Atmosphere Selection**: Choose 1700/1800/1850 grade based on atmosphere (e.g., O2, N2, H2), referring to the maximum temperature table.

- **Spacing Design**: Maintain ≥3 times hot end diameter between element and furnace wall/material, and ≥4 times diameter for center-to-center spacing to optimize heat distribution.

- **Temperature Control System**: Use a PID controller for precise temperature control to extend element lifespan.

- **Cold End Protection**: Ensure the cold end aluminum coating is intact and connectors are tightly secured to avoid poor contact.
